Who says guidebooks have to be boring? When the staff of Spanish e-magazine
Le Cool teamed up with reknowned Spanish magazine designer Feriche Black
the resulting Barcelona guidebook, Welcome to a Weird and Wonderful Guide to Barcelona, was nothing short of
jaw dropping.
Filled with 228 pages of magazine-style articles and interviews of the what-to- and what-not-to-do in
Barcelona, Spain, the design is hip, styling, and different with every single article. A Weird and Wonderful
Guide isn't designed like a book, with a
consistent grid, front-to-back stylesheets, and photos in a consistent mood. It looks much
more like an edition compiling the best nuevo hip magazine layouts of the year. Every page is splashed with copious
color and attitude. Rarely are typefaces used on more than a single article.
Regardless of whether you intend to visit Barcelona, get a copy of A Weird and Wonderful Guide. It's a beautiful example of thinking outside the book, and belongs on your shelf beside such classic art books as Promo and Typography Now.
